Hey everyone!
So as I'm writing this blog the majority of campus is gone for Thanksgiving break. I, however, am staying here on campus for an extra evening due to the weather back home. I would have loved to head home but mom told me that I should stay for an extra night just so everything can get cleaned up. It's not a big deal though, I have some work I can get started on and Josh, whom you can read about in his blog, is here to keep some company in the suite.
The early morning snowfall got me thinking about Vermont and why I chose to come to school here. It's funny to think about people in the North East because they just can not be satisfied with the weather. In the summer it's too hot, in the winter it's too cold, in the spring it's too muddy and in the fall its to neutral. However, the changing seasons add a great depth to the people from around here. They have seen some of the best and worst that mother nature has to offer and because of this, I think that the nature around here has an element of optimism. In seeing an 30 degree, rainy September day being followed by a 80 degree one people know that, no matter how bad the weather gets, there is always a pretty good chance that, in a day or two, the sky will clear and the sun will come out.
My classes this semester have been like the North Eastern weather in many ways. The semester starts out pretty low key for the most part. Syllabus days are always nice because nothing is really due yet. As classes get more and more intense you start to realize that work needs to be done. Soon, papers and exams are due and you are up studying and writing for hours. You can see, on campus, the change in attitude around mid term day. The best part, though, is after the intense weeks, there is a feeling of relief because, although there were tough spots, there is always the optimism that in the end, we will have bettered ourselves in taking these classes, learning these topics, and expanding our academic horizons.
College is an academically and socially intense time in your life. I'm not going to lie, we have all had rough days. However, it is always important to sit back, relax and realize, "This work is difficult, but in the end, this will make me a better, more educated person."
That's all I have for you today. Enjoy your evening everyone. Relax for a bit. I'm gonna go see if Josh is done blogging.
