It would be an understatement to say that I am nervous about writing my thesis next semester.
Background info: When Professor John P. Kenney was Dean of the College some number of years ago he instituted a program that required every major to have some sort of senior capstone project. For most this means a thesis, but others like Science or Math have different requirements.
Now Professor Kenney is back to being a Religious Studies professor (my major) and is currently running our "pre-thesis" class called "Religion, Theory, and Method." It's been a great class. Monday nights from 6-9pm is when we meet and he's really great about even giving us breaks and stuff so we aren't sitting there doing hard work for 3 hours. Its definitely intense though. We basically read a book a week and then write a 2 page response to something that we read.
Next semester I will be writing my thesis with Professor Kenney, because he is our resident scholar on Saint Augustine. We have outlined that I am going to look at Augustine's life and see how his mother Monica played an influence to him both before and after his conversion. I am scared ****less!
First of all, the thesis will have to be about 30 pages long. I am an honors student so it will either be a bit longer than that or it will be graded tougher. For this semester's class I have to write a 15 page paper but I can use it to propel me towards my thesis (which is great!) but I am still scared. I realize that at Oxford I wrote 4 times that much writing but for some reason the word THESIS is scary!
Can't they just call it a ... long term paper?
