One of my favorite bands, The Rustic Overtones, were in town last night at Higher Ground. It was the second great show I've seen in as many weeks. It was also the second show in a row in which the artist has come out into the crowd. The Rustic show was in a much smaller venue of course and there were maybe 100 people versus the 3,200 at the Wyclef show.
Rustic did a great job though. The show had a real intimate feel. Dave Gutter, the lead singer and guitarist, played acoustic all night. That surprised me. The last two Rustic shows have been melt your face loud. This had a real stripped down mellowness. It was cool, almost like hanging out in someone's garage and listening to a great band.
For an encore, Dave came out into the crowd and sang a powerful version of "Dear Mr. President". Then Tony, the bassist, and some other random guy came out and sang the Beach Boy's "Kokomo" It was pretty awful. Funny, but awful.

Happened to find your post doing a blog search on Google. I was at the show as well. Good times for sure. I posted all my pics and a rundown of the show over on the message board at Rocklikewar.com. If you're not a member over there yet you should come sign up and say hi. Glad you had fun.
